PATH OF THE GODS

One of the highlights from the Rick Steves guidebook is “Path of the Gods”. After a boat ride to Amalfi and a short walk around while getting the gelato fix for the day, I was ready to find the bus to take Chris and I up the mountain to Bomerano where the Path begins.  The bus ride up the mountain reminded me of sardines squished in a can and each time the door opened people would inhale and hold their breath until the next time.

It was about 45 minutes up the mountain, all “S” bends with fantastic scenery down below.  The bus driver told us when to get off the bus (probably helped that I was standing in the doorway) in the middle of town and we wandered a couple of blocks and there a sign marked the beginning of the "Path of Gods".

The Path was an amazing delight, quite manageable when taking your time climbing over boulders and watching your step as it was mostly uneven footing between rocks and brush.  With dozens of stops for photos, meeting other travelers, and juice when we reached Nocelle, we were ready to begin our descent down 1700 steps onto the road above Positano.  From there, a short walk back to the hotel.

In total, we walked 11 miles and it took just over 3 1/2 hours.  Highly recommended to anyone that loves to walk and gawk at beautiful scenery but you must be sure footed as there are some climbs and a very uneven trail – not what I would call a path.
